We carry out laptop repair in Birmingham and see a lot of laptops that can’t start up properly.
The lights go on and the welcome screen come on but windows fails to load all the way. There a few reasons why this can happen.
1) Windows updates, this is security updates that windows automatically downloads from the Microsoft website. Sometimes the updates are not always 100% compatible with the laptop they are being installed on. There was an update last year that left many laptops without access to the main operating system windows Vista. The easiest way to fix this problem is to roll back the operating system to a restore point. This can be done with the Windows Vista install CD or special recovery tools if the install CD fails.
2) Bad hard disc. This is one of the most common issues with broken laptops. Hard disc drives are one of the only components in a laptop that have moving mechanical parts apart from the CD drive and fans. However the hard disc drive is critical to the system and sometimes they start to fail. In fact all hard discs will fail with enough time. They are also delicate devices and do not like shock or bumps. If the hard disc fails in a laptop the quickest repair is a new disc and re-install the operating system. Prices vary depending on the size of hard disc. There is also the option of recovering the data off the hold hard disc. This includes music, pictures, files, documents and video. However this is dependant on how badly the old drive has failed.
3) Viruses sometimes can cripple a laptop and will not allow you to boot into windows. I’ve seen this a number of times however most people think a virus is there to vreak a computer when infact new viruses try to steal your credit card information and make you part with money. They can also log all activity on your laptop so keep protected or you might have you might become a victim of ID fraud!
In all cases please give us a call here at laptop repair Birmingham and we’ll help get your system up and running again.
